More Self-service Lanes to be Added at Hong Kong Checkpoints
To improve border crossing efficiency for mainland travelers holding multiple entry permits to Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Immigration Department are adding more e-channels or self-service lanes at Lok Ma Chau. The department will also improve the computer system in addition to adding more immigration officers to shorten queue lines.
The modifications at the checkpoint are due to travelers complaining of congestion. The immigration department has already apologized, stating that they can’t renovate much for historical reasons. The only thing they can do is add more e channels and self-service lanes for the travelers.
Most of the travelers holding Hong Kong entry permits are residents holding Shenzhen hukou. The travelers can now use the e -channels at checkpoints on the Shenzhen side once they register their information and have their fingerprints taken at the checkpoints. An average of 240,000 travelers pass through Louhu Checkpoint, around 110,000 at Huanggang Checkpoint and 80,000 at Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint everyday, an increase of 10 percent over the past year.
