Survey Shows Huge Market for Products Aimed at Seniors
A survey conducted by the consumer association in provinces and cities in Shenzhen found that there is a huge demand for products and services for elderly people. The survey was conducted with 8,000 participating senior consumers regarding their consumption preferences and awareness of consumer rights and consumption willingness.
The survey showed that seniors were willing to spend more money on health and leisure. The first three items usually found in a senior’s shopping list were food, medical treatment and health care products. A steady demand for clothes, travel, dining and entertainment can also be seen with the elderly. But a shortage for products and services for seniors is seen, and there are not enough nursing homes for the elderly, nor enough health care centers in residential communities.
The survey also showed that seniors have low awareness of consumer rights, they are often misled by false promotions since they are unable to recognize false advertising. Analysts found that most senior’s rights are often infringed upon in payments for food, health care products and medical treatment.
Associations are now looking for ways to improve supervision of the consumer market for seniors and punishment will be imposed on those using false advertisements and selling counterfeit products to the elderly.
