New Cycling and Hiking Tracks to Open in Shenzhen
A 150 kilometer network of hiking and cycling tracks has been completed in Yantian District. The city planning, land and resources commission said that the network will run through residential communities, the Wutong Mountain resort and a 19.5 kilometer track along the coast.
Furthermore, landscaping plans, convenient facilities, fitness facilities and bike rental stations will be installed along the tracks to be used at the convenience of residents. The first government funded bicycle rental system will be implemented in Yantian district and is already under construction. The rental system will be composed of a management center, bicycle rental stations and service stations.
The locations for the rental stations have already been determined and facility installation is set to begin soon. A total of 4,000 bicycles will be placed in the Haishan Subdistrict and Shatoujiao areas before the year ends, in addition to nearly 60 percent of planned rental stations in Yantian and Meisha subdistricts that will begin trial operations.
The city hopes that the new rental system will increase the use of bicycles around Shenzhen. Residents can use their Transcard (Shenzhen Tong Card (Ka)) when renting a bicycle, with the first hour to be free of charge and each following hour to be charged 2 yuan.
