Yoga and Pilates, The Connection.
The preservation of health has been an enduring subject throughout the history of humanity. Many practices have formed, grown and evolved over time. From Chigong (Qi Gong) and Yoga all the way to more modern practices like pilates.
In gyms across the world yoga and pilates are gaining popularity. As both yoga and pilates are performed on mats, and emphasize controlled breathing, it can be difficult to see the difference between the two.
The history of yoga goes back as far as 5000 years and is one of the six schools of Hindu philosophy. By performing asnas, (postures) we can prepare the mind and body for meditation. Pilates was founded by Joseph Pilates as a way of conditioning and training the body even through physical limitations, including war injuries. By using controlled breathing and proper muscular alignment the body will gain tremendous range of motion and strength.
