Social Service Center to Provide Services to Mainland People
The center has been set up to provide services to mainland people that have applied for Hong Kong residency permits, people living in Hong Kong for less than 7 years, Hong Kong residents that work and live on the mainland and people who are studying in Hong Kong. The center will also offer free services such as language and professional training, and consultation to help people adjusting to life in Hong Kong.
The center also noted that there are around 210,000 children born in Hong Kong from parents originally from the mainland. Although these children grow up in the mainland they have to go back to Hong Kong to get an education since their Hong Kong identities disqualify them from getting public education on the mainland.
Most of the children that study in Hong Kong have a difficult time adjusting to the language and even if they study at the best schools in Shenzhen they can only apply in an ordinary school in Hong Kong because of a different enrollment system.
