SIS Teachers Are Learners
The two most influential factors effecting successful learning in school are the quality of teaching and support for learning at home. SIS teachers are highly qualified but as in any profession, continuous learning is a key to continuous success. For this reason the school commits time and money to providing professional development opportunities for SIS teachers, all of whom are lifelong learners.
The teaching faculty concentrated on Technology for Learning last Thursday afternoon and all day on Friday. A third of the teachers also gave up their Saturday to continue pursuing new skills that support connecting students with other students in the classroom, between classrooms and around the world.
Kim Cofino from Yokohama International School is a leader in technology for learning in international schools and 21st Century Learning in the Asia region. She worked alongside SIS teacher contributors to present a wide variety of learning opportunities.
On Thursday after school, teachers circulated through six stations where colleagues presented ways that they use information technology for such purposes as elementary school creative writing or high school data gathering. All day Friday and much of Saturday sessions were about using technology tools in our regular program and how to connect our classes globally.
All of these workshops were built on the foundation of best practice that leads to meaningful student learning at SIS.
