Shenzhen to Preserve Ancient Town in Nanshan
Shenzhen will be investing 900 million yuan in hopes of preserving the Nantou Ancient Town in Nanshan. Ancient buildings and houses found in the town will be either rebuilt or repaired in addition to four new Squares that will also be built.
Also known as Xin’an Ancient Town, the area is known as one of the largest historical sites, with history that can be tracked back 1,700 years. Covering 70,000 square meters, the town also has temples, memorials and other historical sites. An additional 385,000 square meters will be added to the protected area and the city will be designating a control area in the town to help protect the architecture, environment and culture.
The city will later introduce leisure facilities to attract tourism and businesses to the town, as well as an exhibition area to be constructed that will display the city’s rich history, culture and development. The city will also be building a Shenzhen/Hong Kong/Macau creative cultural exchange center that will become a base for historical education, creative activities and cultural communication.
