High Speed Rail to be Fully Operational Before the Year Ends
In a closed-door meeting yesterday, a city official said that the Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed railway will begin operations on December 28. Once operational, the high-speed rail will cut travel time to 25 minutes from the current hour it takes to get from Shenzhen to Guangzhou.
A 30-member inspection team has been organized by the Ministry of Railways to conduct an inspection to ensure safety on a trial run this Friday. The train can run at a top speed of 380 km an hour, but is set to only 300 km an hour for safety reasons. The Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed rail will have five stations, namely the Guangzhou South, Humen, Dongchong, Shenzhen North Railway and Gongming Station.
During the initial operation, passengers riding the new rail to Changsha and Wuhan need to transfer at Guangzhou South Railway Station so that they can take the Guangzhou-Wuhan high-speed railway to reach their destinations. There have been no reports yet on when these high-speed railways will run directly to Shenzhen.
The new high-speed rail will ease congestion, especially during the Spring Festival, which starts January 8 next year.
