IB Music Fall Recital
IB Music students are required to demonstrate vocal or instrumental performance skills through solo music making or group music making. Students’ performances must be presented and recorded in front of an audience.
The opening selection featured all the members of the class in a group performance of “The Wizard and I” from the Broadway musical Wicked. Having begun the process last year, most of the senior members of the class completed their standard level group (SLG) performance requirement with this song. Last year, they recorded a collection of songs from various styles and genres including folk, spiritual, Classical, multicultural, and popular.
The rest of the recital program consisted of an impressive and diverse collection of solo vocal and instrumental pieces. As higher level (HL) music students and standard level solo (SLG) music students, the juniors and one senior member, Emily Sears, were required to perform solo works.
Senior, Alex Girkin, had this to say about the performances, “The IB Music recital was a great way for us to assess and improve upon our own musical abilities as well as to experience astounding performances by some of the other students.”
IB Music students will continue to record performances throughout the remainder of their time in the course. Another recital will be scheduled during the spring semester.
