A Gusty but Great Shekou Winter Bazaar
Last Saturday’s Winter Bazaar had all of the festivity, the delicious foods from around the world, seasonal music and the good feeling that comes when we gather to celebrate our community. It is this coming together of our global community that makes this such an important annual event.
The PSA planned and organized for success and the day was certainly successful by every measure. Based on the brisk sale of tickets, the fund raising should be good. This is a very important facet of the overall mission of the Winter Bazaar as it provides significant help to some communities in need.
As has been true most years, the sun was shining. It was breezy and cool enough that you could tell that it was winter, in a subtropical sense. There was a variety of good music provided by the German booth, Bayside strings players, student choral groups and a vocal duet from Melody Gifford and Julie Overlie. The food went fast so those in the know ate early and often.
It’s difficult to imagine how much collective time went into planning, organizing people, decorating and cooking for food booths with home-made goodies from at least fifteen countries. The effort was supported by the SIS maintenance staff who did a great job as always with set up. We owe a huge thank you to all of the moms and dads and teachers and students who made possible such a day , celebrating one another’s home nations and our collective international community. It’s a great way to go into a Winter Holiday we hope will be joyous for all!
