City Plans to Add More Public Housing in 2012
The city will be building an additional 40,000 public housing units by 2012 as reported by the city’s housing construction bureau. After their construction the public housing will be available to residents by 2013 and 2014. Work on 65 public housing projects is already underway and will supply 73,000 units of public housing.
Registration process for 6,000 units has already been completed and will supply the city with 5,600 houses. The additional houses will give shelter to a majority of low-income families that have registered a public housing just before the end of 2007.
Public housing in the city is expected to reach 480,000 houses by the year 2015 and will cover more than 50% of hukou holders in Shenzhen. Housing allowances for professionals have also been offered to at least 11,000 people since the housing project began last year.
