Technology for Learning in 21st Century Classrooms

Technology for Learning in 21st Century ClassroomsAs teachers our main goal is to instruct your child to learn the key components in life that they will take away from our classrooms and use in their daily life. Technology is becoming the new “buzz word” in education. More specifically, keeping up with today’s expectations of being proficient in technology. This is not an easy task as the changes in technology expand from year to year, month to month, and day to day. We are evolving  and must continue to expand and assimilate for the sake of our students.

No matter what job your child will decide on after they graduate, they will need technology to do it. As teachers, we too see this and are actively learning new methods and concepts to help facilitate your child’s well being.

Teachers here at SIS use the various tools that children need. We are beginning to ask ourselves questions as we plan our lessons. For example,  what is the outcome of the lesson, what  does the teacher need to know to help better facilitate student progress, what techniques will help the students learn and use on a frequent basis.

I am so proud to be working at SIS who sees the urgency to implement an overhaul on our technological needs as teachers and the needs of our students. SIS sees this need and provides many workshops, keynote speakers and professional development opportunities for their teachers to learn.

Within the KA classroom, we are embarking on a new outlook on technology not for the sake of having nice equipment but to provide ample opportunities for optimal learning.

We recently received a Smart Board which is an interactive white board that the students can use for a multitude of instructional purposes. One particular use is through calendar and our math and literacy block. This provides a hands-on approach for the students to physically be able to touch the board and manipulate the items they see . In literacy they are now one step closer to being more independent by signing in and deciding which centers they want to visit. In math they are working on making number sentences and stories as well as learning about number sense. These are just a few of the ways we are using this amazing piece of technology in KA.
