Phase III Construction of Metro Officially Underway
The construction of Phase III of the Metro Railway has officially begun starting at Metro Line 11 at the Songgang depot. Phase III will include lines 6,7,8,9, and 11. The lines will add an additional 175.5 kilometers in addition to 104 new stations to the city rail network and bringing the total length of the rail to 354 kilometers.
The railway projects is slated to be finished in 2016, and will account for 38 percent of passengers using public transportation. The new 51.7-kilometer line 11 will link Futian, Bao’an and Nanshan districts. Line 11 is also an express link that will take passengers directly to downtown Futian and the Western business parts of the city.
The Regional Line 7 will bring passengers from Xili in Nanshan through Chegongmiao to Huaqiangbei in Futian and on to Sungang in Louhu district. The 30-kilometer Line 7 will have 28 stations that include 11 transfer stations. Line 9 will start its route at Houhai in Nanshan and run all the way to Wenjin in Louhu via Jingtian and through Meilin in Futian.
Line 6 will begin at Shenzhen North Railway Station and end in Songgang in Bao’an. Line 8, which is known as the tourism line, will run from downtown Luohu to Yantian.
