City Establishes Two New Administrative Zones
Two new administrative zones have officially been established in Shenzhen. The two new zones are Longhua and Dapeng new zones. The new zones will explore innovations in modern urban management. Aside from the existing six administrative districts, there are four administrative zones found in the city.
Longhua New Zone will be transformed into a demonstration area in the city’s effort to accelerate industrial transformation and upgrading. The Dapeng New Zone will be turned into a home for international coastal holiday resorts, industries of strategic importance and low carbon industries.
The Longhua New Zone is found North of Futian District with an area of over 175 square kilometers and a population of 22 million. Longhua New Zone is also the home of the recently opened Shenzhen North Train Station that serves the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high speed railway. The Dapeng New Zone boasts of having more than 133 kilometers of coastal real estate with a population of just 180,000.
Temporary regulations have been implemented concerning the management of the new zones, which clarifies legal status and responsibilities of management commissions. The management commissions are responsible for doing research and establishing economic and social development planning of the two new zones.
