New Years Eve At The Evergreen Resort, Nanshan Mountain
This year I decided instead of the usual bar or club and ridiculous amounts of alcohol consumed I would go for a more quiet and sedate evening. We set off in a taxi to the Evergreen resort at Nanshan mountain. I had been searching on line and came across this place and noted as well as a beautiful hotel you can also stay in tree houses and log cabins. I couldn’t believe such a place existed in the heart of Shenzhen.
We stayed in a tree house which wouldn’t have been out of place in a Beatrix Potter novel. It was cosy and comfortable with a small balcony set a little way up the mountain in the midst of a forest. The walk up to the tree house was a little tough but not too strenuous. For dinner we had a choice of the beautiful Chinese garden restaurant or the elegant Red Western restaurant. We gave the Red restaurant a try and were delighted with the wonderful service and food. Set dinners are available consisting of soup, salad, steak and vegetables and a glass of wine of coffee and for only 70-90rmb fantastic value.
Walking back to the tree house in the dark is quite romantic and relaxing on the balcony with a bottle of wine finishes the evening well. In the morning we set off for breakfast to the Chinese garden restaurant. A lot of the food is grown in their own garden which you walk past on the way to eat. We sat next to a waterfall and pond with lots of large gold fish. Any leftover breakfast obviously gets fed to them. Breakfast was a huge Chinese buffet which included fried noodles, dim sum, eggs, toast and jam, selection of fruit juices, fruit platters, con-gee etc.
The food was tasty and 2 breakfasts are included in the price of your room. We spent the rest of the morning strolling through the park which included an adventure park for the kids with rope bridges, swings and massive climbing frames, there is a fishing pond, a rain-forest, huge fish, life size dinosaurs(not alive thankfully), a fruit garden to pick your own fruit and a butterfly house. There is a pottery house to make your own pots and a guy making things from mettle using something from medieval time. The cost of the tree house was 316rmb including service and this was the best value break I have ever been on when you factor in you also receive 2 breakfasts and 2 entrance tickets for the park(normally 75rm each).
