Price Cap on Movie Tickets to be Imposed
The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has been planning to impose a price cap on movie tickets prices in efforts to create more access to cinemas. By doing this it may require theaters to show more half-price screenings.
Although there is no date set for when the price changes since the State Administration is still planning to issue pricing guidelines for theaters in the next few months. This will make watching movies more affordable to the general public. There were already complaints on high movies ticket prices over the past years, and tickets prices can range from 20 yuan up to 100 yuan depending on the location.
These high prices of tickets, consumers in China cannot afford to go to the movies when needed since most of them earn less in monthly household income. The State Administration said that box office revenues in China in 2011 have increased 18 percent or about 12 billion yuan compared to 10 billion yuan in 2010.
