Captains Bar - Chicken as good as NandosFor anyone out there who has eaten at Nandos before in one of their thousands of locations around the world, there is a place in Shekou serving Chicken just as tasty. The Aulon group have served up another treat of a bar/restaurant for the people of Shekou with the hideaway next to the sea that is Captains Bar.

Captains Bar is a really cool place to hang out and watch the world pass you by across the ocean. For those of you who know Aulon and Atmosphere well you can expect more of the same in terms of fine Australian wines and great food in huge portions. For those not so familiar here is a quick glimpse of their menu. For starters there are bruschetta, cheese jalapeno’s, wedges with dips, whelks, nachos and salads all reasonably priced from 38rmb-48rmb and served in hearty portions, each dish big enough for two.

Mains include pasta’s burgers, sandwiches, grilled sea food and pizzas. Prices of mains range from 52rmb to 130rmb and again provide enough food fit for a king or captain of a ship. The reason I was here today though was not for the awesome sea food on offer but to try the chicken served fresh from the rotisserie. Back in England I lived on Nandos. Succulent chicken cooked on a grill served with delicious sides. Captains bar with their rotisserie have got the next best thing. Try a a quarter, half or whole chicken cooked in tandoori, traditional or lemon and herb style and I promise your taste buds will be ignited by the flavors and juices flowing from the skin and breast.

Half a chicken with a big helping of fries and salad(or mash if you fancy instead of fries) will only set you back 55rmb. A whole chicken and sides 95rmb. Manageress Eva tells me the favorite is the chicken sandwich which includes a quarter chicken and sides for 38rmb or half chicken for 68rmb. I tried one of everything and ended up with doggy bags to take home as even for a prop forward there was too much.

Eva had a message for our readers, ‘Do you want to have a lazy morning, such as have a coffee and English breakfast next to the sea, or enjoy a sunshine afternoon with your family or friends, welcome to Captain’s Bar. We are opening from 7:30am to 1am everyday. And I always work during 9am-6pm.

I like wine very much and I have experience with wines from many countries, I recently traveled to Australia to see Nick Haselgrove who won the 2010 “Australian Winemaker of the Year”.

I have also visited a few famous Australia wine areas, such as Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills, Clare Village, Mclaren Vale and Hunter Valley.’
