The annual five-day Shenzhen Spring Festival flower fair is set to open this Wednesday in Luohu district. The fair has eight sections that will sell potted flowers, fresh flowers, handicraft works and festival scrolls.
A total of 1,026 booths will be seen at the fair, which is a small increase from last year. All booths were bid for by florists coming from different parts of the country. The most expensive booth sold for 12,000 yuan. Aside from the city level flower fair, each district will be having their own flower fair this year. The Nanshan District fair covers 12,000 square meters and will open today at Shenzhen Bay and will be selling popular flowers like cymbidium and moth orchids. Bao’an District will open their flower fair on Wednesday.
Residents are expected to be in a rush to buy flowers this week in anticipation of the coming Spring Festival and buyers will likely see a price hike. The moth orchid is the most sought after flower this year and has seen price increases of about 10 percent. Another popular flower during Spring Festival is the potted orange plant.
