More People Doing their Spring Festival Shopping Online
To save money and time, more people are choosing to shop online in advance of the Spring Festival. The sales of Spring Festival products such as food, ornaments and gifts have doubled in the past three months as reported by taobao.com the country’s largest online shopping site.
Food is also a popular choice of products that are usually ordered online, the most ordered food products have been candies, candied fruit, drinks, cookies, coffee, tea, sauces and honey products. Most of the buyers purchase items that are not found or are difficult to find in stores in their hometown. Red dates are also popular this year with an average of 18 orders made per minute, with more than 90,000 people purchasing the item.
More people have chosen the online option to save on cost as well, with prices for food and festival ornaments having recently increased by 15 percent this year and online vendors offering cheaper solutions. Several supermarkets are doing promotional activities for festival products to attract customers and some customers are buying ornaments at wholesale markets as products there are usually 30 percent cheaper than at supermarkets and department stores.
Spring Festival dinners in Shenzhen are also becoming more popular as more people decide to stay in the city for the festival, thus hotels and restaurants are offering Spring Festival dinners with prices going as high as 5,000 yuan for ten persons. Some Chinese restaurants are offering tables to diners for 1,000 yuan per table.
