The geological park on Dapeng Peninsula in Eastern Shenzhen will be open in June for free visits. The first stage of the geological park covers an area of 56.3 square kilometers and is already close to completion.
The first phase consists of 16 projects that includes a 5.6 kilometer coastal promenade, a geological museum, a mangrove wetland conservation area and a science education base. A 12 kilometer hiking trail is also included in the first phase complete with 10 viewing stands, six emergency shelters, seven environmentally friendly toilets and police booths.
The geological museum was constructed using natural stones which includes volcanic rocks. The coastal promenade will be integrated with the hiking and cycling track networks that surrounds the Pearl River Delta. The city’s goal is to build an international geological park and to ensure the conservations of the park ecology as much as possible.
The construction of the hiking track didn’t use any machinery to conserve the natural trails of the park, the company used horses to transport the necessary materials to the site. At a cost of 1 billion yuan the park will be the first geological park that will offer free entry.
The park will have three phases and once all three will be finished the park will further boost tourism in the Pearl River Delta and southern China, it will also serve as a place for research into volcanic activities and coastal landforms.
