Elementary Music: Learning through Performance
In December grades K-5 had the opportunity to share some music with their parents through the Winter Concert performances. They enjoyed learning the songs and performing, making a festive time special for all.
Through the preparation of music, children learned about vocal performance: how to blend their voices with others, how to watch a conductor, how to look as a performer, and how to behave as an audience member. Grade 5 focused on singing in harmony, using canon, partner songs, and direct harmony. Grade 4 learned about different languages and cultures as they sang songs from different parts of the world. Grade 3 used their Chinese skills to perform one of their songs in Chinese. Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2 learned how to sing out to produce a beautiful sound for the stage and enjoyed learning some new songs for this season.
What’s Next?: Please join me and all the ES Specialists at Learning Comes Alive on Wednesday, February 8 from 10:40-2:50. You’ll experience what music (and other specialist areas) is like for your child and have a better understanding of what your child is learning.
Check the elementary music blog for various websites to help your child learn even more about music. You will also find updates on what your child is doing in music.
