Stores to Buyback Gifts Given During the Holidays
Local stores in Shenzhen are thriving since they began buyback businesses as customers come in and return high-priced gifts they received during the Spring Festival. The gifts are bought back by the stores at a fraction of the original prices of the gifts when bought.
Some grocery and convenience stores are promoting buyback services for certain brand name liquor and wines. Each buyback of the liquor and wine will depend on the vintage. A bottle of Feitian Moutai can be bought back at a price of 1,000 yuan, while foreign wines that are usually sold at 2,000 yuan can be bought back for 1,400 yuan. Other stores are offering prices 50 percent less than the original asking price of some products.
Giving high-priced gifts is a popular custom during the Spring Festival but sometimes people find no use for their gifts or have received the same gift twice and will return their gifts to stores. People are also visiting store websites to return gifts and negotiate for prices. Gadgets such as the iPod and iPad are the most traded items and often sold back with a 100 to 200 yuan discount.
