New City Medical Service Allows Insurance Sharing
Through a new city service residents that are covered by the city medical insurance can now share their accounts with other insured family members when their balances exceed the city’s average monthly salary for last year.
The service has been initiated by the Shenzhen Social Insurance Fund Management Bureau and allows the card owners to register information for new card users by logging on to their website. The new insurance card users can also go to the nearest bureau offices in their district to apply for registration. They can also complete their applications at designated hospitals by the insurance bureau.
The account can only be shared if the family member has no balance on their account, then they can use a shared card for treatment and medical fees will be deducted from the account of the card owner. The insurance bureau has already set up a database that will associate cardholders with their covered family members. Officials are encouraging residents to properly fill out and complete registration for the service before the deadline on June 30.
For residents that don’t electronically register, the cardholder will need to endorse the registrant’s name, relationship and contact number on prescriptions and receipts. Foreign nationals and residents from Macau and Hong Kong that are covered by the city’s medical insurance can also use the new service.
