Magnitude 4.2 Earthquake Hits Guangdong
A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck Guangdong this morning at 2:34 AM local time, approximately 190Km North East of Shenzhen, according to the USGS . While not everyone has reported feeling the quake, most likely due to their being asleep when it struck and being of a comparatively low magnitude, many in the city reported feeling as though the building were moving beneath them and furniture moving around in their homes.
This is not the first time that a quake has been felt in the city. Shenzhen was affected by another earthquake in November, 2010 that caused a bit more of a stir, with many in office buildings noticing the ground shifting beneath their feet and the sway of the buildings as they absorbed the tremor. While that quake was closer to Shenzhen, it was half as powerful as this most recent tremor, at 2.8 on the Richter scale and several kilometers deeper.
