Bureau of Public Works Opens Bidding of New Campus ConstructionThe city bureau of public works announced yesterday bidding documents and requirements of campus plans on the planned construction of the Shenzhen campus of the Chinese University of Hong Kong that is set to start soon.

In the proposed plans the campus will be located southwest of the Universiade Sports Center in Longgang. The campus will have a total area of 100 hectares with a construction area of around 450,000 square meters. The campus will undergo a two phase construction. Once the first phase of the construction is completed the campus will begin enrolling 7,000 students. Total cost of the construction is around 1.5 billion yuan.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong already set up a team for the Shenzhen campus in 2009. It made them the first Hong Kong University to open a campus in mainland China. Current regulations do not allow any universities from foreign countries, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to set up any educational organizations on the mainland. The Chinese University of Hong Kong together with Shenzhen University will run the new campus.

An agreement created from both universities stated that they will cooperate in several areas such as management, scientific research and teaching resources. Enrollment will begin in 2013 with an estimated 7,000 students and will eventually increase to 11,000.
