Metro Line 4 to Reduce Interval Time Between Trains

Metro Line 4 to Reduce Interval Time Between TrainsStarting  in March, Longhua Line, better known as Metro line 4 will be reducing interval time between trains to 3 minutes and 45 seconds during rush hour periods. The present interval time during the evening rush hour that starts at 5:30 pm and ends at 8 pm is 4 minutes and 15 seconds.

Local residents were complaining about congestion on the carriages even with the interval time having been shortened, prompting Hong Kong MTR Shenzhen, the operator to add four more trains to the existing 20 trains that are running on the line now. Each train has four carriages and is expected to carry more passengers and decrease waiting time.

The Metro Line operator has  been critized for poor service and technical faults since it took control of Line 4 in 2010 under a BOT concession agreement with the Shenzhen Municipal Government. In the agreement Hong Kong MTR holds a 30-year franchise that allows them to operate Line 4. They will also be assuming all necessary maintenance and operation costs.
