New High Speed Railway to Open in April

New High Speed Railway to Open in AprilStarting April 1st, Guangzhou Railway Group Corp. will be operating high-speed trains that will be departing Shenzhen and taking passengers directly to Changsha and Wuhan.  Travel time from Shenzhen to Wuhan will now be down to dizzyingly quick four hours. Passengers that leave Shenzhen for provincial cities currently have to transfer at Guangzhou’s South Railway Station.

There will be 10 pairs of trains labeled G10 that will run the routes from Shenzhen to Wuhan, and another 10 pairs labeled G60 that will bring passengers to Changsha. There are currently 28 pairs of high speed trains that cover routes between Shenzhen and Guangzhou. The connected rails will run four hours and eight minutes to Wuhan and two hours 48 minutes going to Changsha.

Guangzhou railway group however did not inform of any fare or schedule changes for the new rail line. As of now it costs 75 yuan for an economy seat going from Shenzhen to Guangzhou, then 465 yuan from Guangzhou to Wuhan. An estimated fare for Shenzhen to Wuhan is at 540 yuan while Shenzhen to Changsha fare is at 390 yuan.

The high speed railway is part of a larger passenger rail system in which a new section will be opened in August from Wuhan to Zhengzhou. A section between Zhengzhou and Shijiazhuang will open by the end of the year. Once completed it will take just eight hours to travel from Shenzhen to Beijing.
