Tennis Star Li Na Reaches Paribas Open Quarterfinals
Tennis star Li Na reached the quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open in California by defeating Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic. Li Na was the first Asian player to win a grand slam title in last year’s French Open.
While people think she is to outspoken, Li will not change her persona just because of that. People thought of this when she defeated compatriot Zheng Jie last Sunday. Li didn’t mean for that to happen and she knows people will hate her for that but she does not care. She always remind herself that she is only a tennis athlete, here to play tennis and doing the best she can.
Her victory in the French Open boosted tennis in China and made her a sought after product endorser. While tennis still has a long way to go to catch up on the popularity of basketball, table tennis or soccer. Li insists that she is not interested in becoming a national icon.
On the men’s side of the tournament, Roger Federer defeated Milos Raonic in the fourth round Tuesday night, while Rafael Nadal beats fellow countryman Marcel Granollers.
