City to Increase its International Cultural Exchanges
According to the city’s culture, sports and tourism bureau, the city will be increasing its international cultural exchange this year. The bureau will be encouraging more and facilitate creations of dances and songs a few months ahead of the national Chinese culture promotion activities.
The culture promotion activities will be done in several foreign countries and continents including Africa and Germany. The Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra will be playing in the Chinese Culture Year in Turkey and in an international music festival in Istanbul. Several events will be scheduled during the first half of this year that will feature classic Chinese films, operas, musical and symphony performances. In the later half exhibitions featuring modern and ancient Chinese artworks will be presented.
Shenzhen will also be increasing its efforts in introducing foreign art into the city with is 36 sisters of friendly cities in 23 countries. In 2007 Shenzhen initiated a International Sister Cities Cultural and Art Week, then turning it into a biennial event that lures local residents to come and see the cultures of foreign cities. During last year’s Cultural and Art Week a total of 111 artists from Shenzhen’s sister cities such as Frankfurt Germany and Pusan in South Korea came to Shenzhen.
This year Shenzhen will be seeking more cultural exchange from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau since these cities has higher global profile. Activities will be planned that will introduce the cities artists, athletes and youths to its counterparts in Shenzhen.
