Reading Week Celebrated at Shenzhen American International School
Shenzhen American International School celebrated Reading Week at their Meilin campus. Teachers, staff and students celebrated the school’s first reading week from March 12 to March 16. “Spring is here and young readers are popping up all over the place! Our theme，“Reading Garden” inspired from the Chinese proverb: “A book is like a garden carried in the pocket.” Was how the Reading Week teacher coordinators described the theme. The students participated in bookmark making, buddy reading, and a read-a-thon. In addition, staff from Admissions to Administration got involved as guest readers.
Most of the activities were focused on English literacy, but there were lots of opportunities for students to enjoy reading and hearing quality Chinese literature and lovely poetry. “We are excited to see literacy promoted in a fun and educational way”, said Valerie Luce; Superintendent and Principal of both Nanshan and Meilin campuses, who was also one of the guest readers. It was a successful week filled with memorable stories, poems, and a wonderful way to encourage children to love reading just for the fun of it! Reading is a lifelong skill that can be enjoyed by all.
