Yantian Bike Rental System a Hit Among its Residents
The government-funded bike rental system in Yantian District is a hit among its residents where in the system’s 3,000 bicycles were used more than one million times since it began in December. The district urban management administration released rental data this week and it showed that the system is a success. By April the district plans to bring the bikes to a total of 5,000.
So far Yantian residents have been renting bicycles for daily use, ranging from office workers, students, fast food delivery staff and even housewives. The bicycle rental management center that each resident pays 200 yuan as a deposit for a rental card. Once paid they can use a bicycle for free for an hour and then are charged 2 yuan for each additional hour. The center also said that more residents are applying for rental cards everyday, even expats living in the district have begun using the bicycle rental system.
In May people can then start using their Shenzhentong card to rent public bicycles along with the completion of the 19.5 kilometer promenade connecting Zhongying street with Xiaomeisha by the end of the year.
An integration of the bicycle rental system is also being planned since Longgang, Luohu and Yantian districts operate their bike rental systems differently causing inconvenience and complaints from users and residents trying to rent bicycles in these areas.
