Submerged Village Visible as Local Reservoir Dries Up
Houses in the Xihu Village in the northwestern Longgang District that were submerges by a reservoir more than half a century is now visible after the reservoir have dried up. Pools, trees, grain basking fields and homes in the surrounding also came into view.
One local residents have been searching the area for villagers and their descendants that used to live in the area and is inviting them to come and visit the village once more. In 1960, during the construction of the Qinglinling Reservoir, the villagers were relocated. The reservoir covered an area of more than 23,000 square meters and had a maximum storage of 2,770 cubic meters of water.
Reservoir management said that shortage of rainfall in the area in the past two years and the rapid consumption of water by residents living nearby caused the reservoir to dry up thus resulting to the village to emerge. But management said that the incoming rainy season may return the reservoir water level back to normal.
