There were three different routes created coming from the Kingkey 100 building, Melin Culture and Sports Center, and at the Yitian Holiday Plaza. The route ends at Coco Park in Futian where people gathered to show their support in the treatment and rehabilitation of children suffering from autism. Blue Action also took part of the foundation’s Ocean and Paradise charity program that is devoted in finding ways and aiding children that are suffering from autism and brain palsy. This was the first program operated by the One Foundation since it open in Shenzhen, January of last year.
One Foundation Founder, Jet Li said, that children suffering from autism are receiving very little attention, they should be treated with respect and giving all the support that they might need. According to the Shenzhen Autism Research Institute, there are 20,000 autistic children in Shenzhen with 90 percent of the children were diagnosed with autism by the age of 2 years old when the symptoms started showing.
The best period in which children can receive treatment is before they turn 3, giving them early intervention and rehabilitation is crucial. Statistics have also shown that Shenzhen has 22 institutions for the rehabilitation of autistic children including eight privately funded ones. Shenzhen Yuanping Special Education School a publicly funded school in Shenzhen offers special courses for autistic children which currently offers eight classes for autistic children.
