MS Girl’s Volleyball: Playing our Game!
This year, the middle school volleyball program consisted of two teams. This provided the girls, across all grade levels, with the opportunity to participate and play the fabulous game of volleyball. The 6th grade team and the 7th/8th grade team showed amazing determination and growth in skill throughout the season. The fact that the 7th/8th took home the second place trophy at the SDRC tournament is testament of their development as a team.
SEVEN MAKES A TEAM!
The 6th grade team had seven eager volleyball players: Amanda Wong, Sydney Sears, Ellysa Groh, Michelle Lee, Shanna Lui, Maggie Belnap and Angel Sun. The focus for these girls, coached by Ms. K. and 10th grader assistant coach Christina Lee, was the three C’s: Communication, Consistency and Control. They demonstrated these skills perfectly in games against the QSI 7th/8th grade team. As a result they were able to hold their own and showed amazing improvement from one game to the next.
RIVALS TO THE END!
The 7th and 8th grade team, lead by captain, co-captain and MVP nominees, Charlie Yeoh and Erin Hwang finished a great season by placing 2nd place in the SDRC tournament this last weekend. Fighting through five games in tournament play to lose just one to QSI,
who they later would meet in the finals.
In the first game of the tournament the ladies played AISG. Quick net play by Amanda Wisbeck , strong hits by Dora Shen, consistent passes by Carly Fraser and 10 straight serves by Hajira Kamran finally won the close game in three sets.
Day two, against HKIS brought out a determined team. Ellen Soderberg and Shanna Lui’s serves, along with a great passing game my Roxanne Weihrauch and successful attacks by Aine Murphy won the game in two quick sets.
By day three, it was time again to play our QSI rivals. The energy and teamwork displayed in the final game was captivating. Even though the results were not what the team wanted they are proud of their accomplishment and ready for a rematch any time! So if you pass a MS Girl’s volleyball player in the next week give them an high five and a congrats for their teamwork and second place win!
