Crushed Grapes Co-Founder Up For Young Achiever Award
Launched in October 2010, online wine destination Crushed Grapes has grown from strength to strength. Initially created for people, who enjoy wine but wanted to expand their wine knowledge in China, the company now boasts an exclusive Wine Discovery Club, offers private wine tasting and corporate gifting just to name a few of their recent initiatives.
Co Founder Niamh Given comments, “We’ve built up a great wine community through our wine tastings and engaging people online. We pride ourselves on fast, friendly and reliable service. Our recent Wine Discovery Club offers customers 2 wines each month which we have hand picked and get delivered, without customers needing to think about it” she continued. Another new initiatives is the use of video wine blogs to showcase quality wines and talk through the tasting profile. This has been extremely successful, the first video had more than 100 views in the first 24 hours.
Nominated for the 2012 Women in Leadership Business Awards, in the Young Achiever Award category, Niamh is really excited that her efforts are being recognized. “This award recognizes my achievements both here in China and Internationally. It was a big step out of my comfort zone to co-found Crushed Grapes, but I was passionate and believed there was a real opportunity. If that courage can inspire just one other young woman to take a big step and go after their dream, then that’s success to me” Niamh stated.
In terms of the wine industry in China, Niamh believes there is a trend towards white wine, especially New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc & Pinot Gris, “it’s a great thing because they are the perfect compliment to Chinese food” she commented. “Another trend is people starting to embrace non-French wines, the approachable flavor and body of Australian Shiraz has helped people move away from the traditional French wines.”
