Hospital Plans to Reopen Clinic Services
The District People’s Hospital in Nanshan is planning to open a window for patients that need to get simple drugs quickly. People that suffer from chronic diseases and diagnoses from doctors can get the drugs from a window after paying a low registration cost.
This will cut the waiting time for people in hurry to get their prescribe medication. Currently the hospital is negotiating with the city health department for the management of these services. When the service is approved it can start within two weeks. These service hopes to balance the closure of the hospital’s simple clinic that provided cheap registration and shorter waiting time for common checkups and medication. The simple clinic was closed because of safety concerns on the patients, however its closure was criticized with patients complaining of inconvience at busy hospitals.
Patients said that the simple clinic was very convenient since they didn’t have to wait in lines to get medications at low costs. Now they have to wait for hours in the hospital to get their medication. Before the clinic was part of the outpatient department where a patient can just pay 1 yuan for registration and get a simple standard check and medication.
The clinic gets more than 1,000 patients visits on an average day, but despite of the high use officials had to close the clinic for medical safety. Although the clinic was indeed fast, it didn’t record patient condition and this is dangerous for patients and the hospital. Although the city health department said that the clinics are necessary since its convenient for patients, the hospitals should find a better way to manage and run the clinic to ensure patient safety.
