Two Hour Blackout Covered the City in Total Darkness
A blackout affected part of Luohu, Futian, Nanshan and Longgang Tuesday night that lasted almost two hours plunging businesses, residential buildings and streets into total darkness. The blackout caused delays in trains traveling between Shenzhen and Guangzhou and trapping people in elevators in buildings.
The blackout started around 8:30 pm in Futian and startled people in shopping centers and streets when it suddenly went dark, then lampposts found along trunk roads resumed normal lighting after a few minutes. A resident living in Tianxin village in Luohu said that areas such as Sungang, Shuibei, Tianbei and Shawan were covered in darkness after the blackout. Several more residents also reported areas such as Buji, Bantian and Nanwan in Longgang district were also affected by the blackout for more than an hour.
The city power supply bureau apologized for the blackout stating that it was caused by equipment failure at a transmission station in Henggang. Electricity services in most Metro stations and hospitals were left untouched and had power throughout the blackout. More than two hundred police were scattered to areas where traffic lights lost power, and no accidents related to the blackouts were reported.
By 10:10 pm power was finally restored to the areas affected by the blackout
