Advances in Technology for Learning
SIS is entering an exciting period of development in order to achieve the Philosophy and Vision of Technology for Learning (TFL) created by the Technology School Improvement Team during the 2010-11 school year and posted on the school website.
The staff was energized by a Professional Development day and weekend workshop focused on TFL and the possibilities for TFL at our school. For the last few months the Leadership Team has been exploring the use of TFL at other international schools in the region and has also benefited from various SIS groups informing our decision making.
We have interviewed candidates for the newly formed position, Director of Technology for Learning resulting in the appointment of John Burns from Australia. We believe that he possesses the traits and skills we are seeking.
With the expertise of the staff and input from consultants, a short and long term plan is being articulated in order to achieve the vision of Technology for Learning. We are structuring our planning using the themes of Communication, Infrastructure, Resources and Professional Development.
After all of our research and input from many including our new Director, Dr. Cox, we have finalized the decision to change platforms from PC to Apple. Our goal is to begin this process before the end of the school year and to complete it within a two to three year timeframe. The possibilities for our students created by this change will turn into richer and deeper learning opportunities that realize the TFL Vision.
