From Reading Logs to Reading Blogs

From Reading Logs to Reading BlogsIn grade one, students respond to the stories they read in their nightly reading logs. Each night after reading their story, students write about the story by retelling or explaining their connections, predictions, favorite part, likes and dislikes. They begin learning to discuss literature and explain their ideas.

This trimester the students in 1B have added a little twist to their reading logs by beginning to write their reading logs on our class blog. Students blog about a story once a week rather than writing in their reading log at home. Next we will be learning to respond to the posts of other students.

Examples of Reading Blogs from 1B:

Response to Ice Cream Everywhere written by Milin:

“In ice cream everywhere it tells us that where we can put ice cream like on cakes and in cones and also in cups some times in bowls and in the story the ice cream is in a toy boat and thats imposible. In one page theirs ice cream on peoples head, on there ear, on there tummy, on there legs also on there mouth and hands.”

Response to Cookie’s Week written by Michael:

“My connektion was I made a big mes and thear was pawdr every wher and Cookie noked pots, pans and dishes everywhere.”

1B is excited about this new way of sharing their enthusiasm and ideas about reading.
