Police Impounds Illegal Bikes Caught Entering Restricted Roads
After the grace period for the electric bicycles have ended, traffic police started impounded bicycles that have been illegally entering the roads starting yesterday. So far the police have confiscated more than nine hundred bicycles.
To implement the new rule, police dispatched 400 officers in 50 inspection stations. The police used personal digital assistants that will be used to check electric bicycles whether it has been registered for approval to be used in the roads. However several riders disapproved the actions.
One bike user said that he use his bicycle to bring his wife to work and he obeys the traffic rules and doesn’t use it as a taxi service still his bike was confiscated. Traffic police said that they are not restricting electric bicycles used for certain industries such as utilities deliveries and postal services so it won’t use too much disruption. Electric bicycles used for these services will be painted yellow, blue and green according to the industry they will be used.
Several riders are happy that the number of electric bicycles have been reduced making them safer while on the road. Electric bicycle users that are caught and fined three times or have cause accidents that involve injuries or death will be disqualified and will not be allowed to use or rent bicycles.
