Rainy Season Cause for Delayed Flights at Airports
Because of the rainy season that began in April, travelers will expect more flight delays at the Shenzhen airport. Statistics shows that between April and May plus the typhoons in July and August are the main reason for the majority of flight delays at airports. Last Friday the airport had nearly 200 flights delayed with ten canceled.
Five major airports can be found within the vicinity of the Pearl River Delta, between then five airports around 2,500 flights are taking off and landing everyday. 1,500 of these flights heads towards Beijing and Shanghai. Flights to and from Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Guangzhou are given less priority.
So far there is no system that regulates the delay of flights, prompting several airlines to introduce insurance for delays. Several airlines will compensate travelers if they are willing to purchase the insurance for 20 yuan. For example passengers will get a 200 yuan compensation for a 3 hour delay, 400 yuan for 4 hours and 300 yuan if the flight is canceled.
But some passengers disagree with this saying that it’s the airline responsibility to compensate passengers there is no reason for them to buy insurance.
