International Baccalaureate Art Examiner Visits in the First IB Exam to be Held at SIS
On Monday 9th of April, IB art examiner Mr. Jacques Thomas, spent the day interviewing five students in our first International Baccalaureate examination. The art interviews focused on a selection of work that students completed over their two-year course.
During the interview students spoke about their studio work and their investigation workbook and described the process, interpretation and intent of their art work. 60% of the final result is represented by studio work in the final examination and 40% by the investigation work book.
Of the students who took part, three undertook Visual Art at the higher level and two at the standard level . It is estimated that students spend a minimum of 144 hours on studio work at the higher level and 90 hours at standard level; investigation work books represent 90 and 60 hours respectively.
Our predicted grades for all IB subjects are strong. Under the guidance of a very dedicated High School faculty, we are extremely pleased with the growth shown by our first cohort. The completion of our first IB exam is an important milestone for SIS. We are extremely proud not only of our art students and their wonderful work but of the whole senior class of 2012. This group will be remembered as the inaugural IB class, and their tenacity and ability to take on new challenges in a positive and optimistic way, have been the hallmark of their senior year.
