Book City to Promote Reading by Transforming into a Public VenueDigital publication and electronic reading is fast becoming the new trend, with this  development Book City stores in Shenzhen are also planning its transformation. Book City plans to transform itself into a public service venue to promote reading culture along with leisure activities and not be known as just a book store.

The store is one of the city’s largest book selling venues under the supervision of the Shenzhen Publication and Distribution Group. One of Book City branch was able to sell more than 4.8 million books in 2010, with revenues of 131 million yuan and received 10 million visitors. Book City Central City in Futian District already became a place for the residents to spend their spare time to browse and read books.

In 2010 there was a total of 700 reading and cultural activities related to books, the most popular activity was Shenzhen 8 pm, which was a cultural lecture for the public where residents can exchange books, participate in storytelling and poetry reading competitions and cultural services.
