Shenzhen Traditional Snacks Impressed Visitors at Cultural Fair
Visitors of the 8th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair were fascinated by the amount of traditional Shenzhen snacks displayed and tasted. One visitor said that she have been living in Shenzhen for more than 20 year and this is the first time see saw and heard of these traditional snack at the fair.
This is the first time the city placed on display their original food and cultural products at the annual cultural fair. The city displayed snacks such as the peanut crisp in Gongming, fried coconut in Nan’ao, shrimp crisp in Xixiang, peanut cake in Pingshan and egg cake in Longgang. All of these traditional snacks are very popular with local residents.
Local snack manufacturer are hoping that by joining this year’s fair through the taste of Shenzhen, more people will be aware of the traditional snacks. The city had different snacks in different periods of time. Residents snack on egg cakes during the Tomb Sweeping Festival, rice cakes on Spring Festival, and oyster crisp on the Double Ninth Festival. A local manufacturer also said that there are a lot more of Shenzhen made foods that are not yet discovered and explored.
A hundred years ago, people brought snack making techniques to Shenzhen from different parts of the country and through the years these techniques were upgraded and developed further by the residents of Shenzhen. And due fast development of the economy and the introduction of fast food consumption a lot of these traditional snacks disappeared because of their complicated production procedures.
