City Promotes Green Commuting and Low Carbon Lifestyle during World Environment Day
To celebrate the World Environment Day the city environment commission is promoting a green commuting and low carbon lifestyle for its residents and also to celebrate the upcoming Green Action Day which falls on Friday after the World Environment Day.
During a ceremony at the Shenzhen Bay Park yesterday several activities were introduced to demonstrate the achievements on the construction of the city’s greenways. There are eight types of greenways each with different themes and is located in the ten districts and new areas.
Hip hop greenways can be seen in Bao’an and Longhua district, a sports greenway in Luohu, a bird watching and photography greenway in Futian, a music greenway in Dapeng and Longgang and a graffiti greenway in Nanshan.
In 2010 the Guangdong province started promoting greenway developments and by 2011, the city has built more than 1,200 kilometers of greenways with plans to build an additional 1,000 kilometers more this year. Once the greenway network is completed, residents can use them to tour the entire city by walking or using bicycles on the nature filled paths.
