Li Na Bows Out of the French Open
Defending French Open Champion Li Na loses the chance to defend her title as she was defeated by Kazakh Yaroslava Shevedova in a fourth round match, who will now face either Varvara Lepchenko of the United States or Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic for a spot in the semis.
Li Na was trying to be the first French Open Women’s champion to have successfully defending the French Open Title since Justine Henin in 2007. Li had a great start but in the match first round but broke down in the second set as she made 41 errors and was broken 7 times by Shevedova and have never recovered. Chinese fans of Li were disappointed to Li’s shocking defeat, but most of her fans understood.
Her defeat was the most talked about subjects on the popular micro blog Sina Weibo with more than 11 million posts mentioning her name. Many blamed her mood swings, which most of her fans considers as one of her major weakness. Li Na have not won a title since her victory in the French Open have hit back on her criticism saying that she only lost one match so they should not put her down. Na is now trying to find out reasons on how she lost her match.
Meanwhile Maria Sharapova has able to survive errors and struggled her way into the quarterfinals after deafeating Czech Klara Zakopalova 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.
