District to Install Public Wi-Fi Network by November
By the end of November, residents can surf the internet in most parts of Futian District once 881 public Wi-Fi access points are installed around the area. The district government has signed agreements with China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom to provide a wireless network that will cover most of areas around Futian.
The wireless network will cover commercial buildings that houses headquarters of local Fortune 500 companies and other well known international and domestic companies. The second phase is to have network access points installed at industrial parks and popular commercial areas. The last phase will place Wi-Fi access points to public service locations such as hospitals, community clinics, administrative offices, cultural sites and transportation venues.
The entire project will involve the installation of more than 2,500 public Wi-Fi hotspots along with 300,000 residential Wi-Fi hotspots across Futian. The planned wireless network coverage is expected to cover at least 80 percent of the area and will be benefiting more than a million residents.
