Museum to Showcase Works of Masters in Celebration of its 15th Anniversary
Shenzhen residents will get the chance to see a series of works from known masters Guan Shanyue, Fu Baoshi and cartoonist Hua Junwu. The art works will displayed at the Guan Shanyue Art Musuem in celebration of its 15th year anniversary and 100th year anniversary of Guan’s birth.
Guan Shanyue and Fu Baoshi undoubtedly are among the famous figures in modern Chinese art history, with such works “Such Is the Beauty of Our Rivers and Mountains,” that they created together for the Great Hall of the People in 1959, is already a household name in China.
Guan Shanyue originally named Zepei, a Guangdong native and master of the Lingnan School of Painting. Born in the year when China’s dynastic rule was brought to an end. lived through difficult times witnessing the power struggles following the Chinese Revolution of 1911, the upheavals of the anti-Japanese war, the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, the Cultural Revolution and finally China’s reform and opening up. In 1997, he donated 813 of his artworks to Shenzhen and placed in the Guan Shanyue Art Museum, a museum that was buld and named after.
Fu Baoshi is a longtime friend of Guan and is one of the most original Chinese portrait painter and landscapist of the modern era, Fu created indelible images that celebrated his homeland’s cultural heritage while living through one of the most devastating periods of the country’s history. And to mark the friendship of the two artists, exhibition of Fu’s works will be displayed for the first time alongside works of Guan in an exhibition.
The exhibition will show around 80 of Guan’s artworks together with 61 pieces of Fu’s artworks that will give a paramount view of the life and art of the two artists.
