Visitors Praises City’s Abundant Greenery
First time visitors to Shenzhen always give praise to the city’s abundant greenery. The greenery enhances the highly metal and concrete urbanized locations such as Shennan Boulevard. Local government is now planning to heighten the effect by adding more landscaping projects.
The landscaping project will be done citywide and is said to be modeled after the urban landscaping style of globally recognized garden city Singapore. By 2020, half of Shenzhen will be covered by greenery. City officials are planning an eight year urban landscaping plan that set lofty goals for developing new parks, cycling and hiking trails as well as road improvements. The plan is set to plant more than 24 million trees and shrubbery on rooftops, parking lots, footbridges and flyovers.
Every district in Shenzhen is given the tasked to upgrade the landscaping of one or two roads in each of the eight years in the landscaping plan. Officials are also planning to have more than 1,000 parks across the city by 2020. Currently Shenzhen is home to 824 parks. The districts and new areas are required to construct children parks except for Futian and Luohu districts. Furthermore a network of cycling and hiking trails will be completed by the end of the year, bringing a total of 1,200 kilometers of trails and tracks.
Shenzhen leads some of its domestic counterparts in urban landscaping measurements, such as greenery coverage percentage, per capita public green areas and green areas but still falls behind international standards.
