Top NCEE Scorers to be Enrolled at Hong Kong University
The University of Hong Kong enrolled 21 students coming from the mainland. These 21 students performed well during the National College Entrance Examinations which set a new record for the top number of NCEE scorers enrolled by the university.
More than 12,438 students from the mainland submitted their applications to the University, which is a twenty percent increase from the number of students who submitted last year. Among the applicants the university enrolled around 363 students which is 24.7 more than last year. Among the popular subjects chosen by the students were engineering, economics, finance, law and science.
Last year the university only enrolled 17 top NCEE scorers, among the 21 top scorers this year 10 of them are provincial top scorers. All of the top scorers will be getting scholarships of up to HK$640,000. This amount can fully cover their four year tuition fees, accommodation and basic living expenses. A program will also be launched this year that will allow senior students to assist the mainland students to adapt to the life in Hong Kong.
From 2004 to 2011 a growing number of top mainland students are choosing to study in Hong Kong universities and according to university officials some of these students are outstanding, some are winners at national competitions for science, some excel in music and dancing while others are gifted athletes.
Meanwhile the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is planning to enroll around 190 mainland students coming from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong. Statistics is showing that the total number of mainland student to enroll at Hong Kong universities might reach 1,600 this year.
